Step 1: Access Your Shopify Dashboard

First, open Shopify and navigate to your store's dashboard. From here, follow these steps:

#1 Go to Settings in the bottom left-hand corner.

Step 2: Connect Your Existing Domain

Login to your GoDaddy account. In the Domains section, you’ll see options for managing your domains.

Now, follow these instructions:

#1 Click on Connect existing domain.

#3 Enter your domain in the format and click Next.

Step 3: Add DNS Records to GoDaddy

To connect your domain, you need to add DNS records to GoDaddy.

Here are the steps to add a DNS record to GoDaddy:

  1. Log in to your GoDaddy account and go to the Manage DNS section.

  2. Scroll down to see your existing DNS records.

  1. If you have an existing CNAME record for the www subdomain, delete it.
  2. Click on Add to create a new record.

  3. Choose CNAME as the type.
  4. For the Name, enter www.
  5. For the Value, enter
  6. Leave TTL on default and click Save.

Adding an A Record

  1. Click on Add to create a new record.
  2. Choose A as the type.
  3. For the Name, enter @.
  4. For the Value, enter the IP address provided by Shopify (it will be in the tutorial description).
  5. Click Save.


Step 4: Verify Your Connection in Shopify

Once you've added the necessary DNS records, go back to Shopify and

  1. Click on Verify connection.

  2. Shopify will check if it can connect to your domain. This should happen almost instantly.

Step 5: Set Your Domain as Primary

Once the connection is verified, you must set your new domain as the primary domain for your store, and here are the steps to do so:

  1. In the Domains section, find your domain (e.g.,

  2. Click on it and select Change domain type.

  3. Set it as the Primary domain.

Step 6: Test Your Domain

After doing step 5, give Shopify and GoDaddy a couple of hours to propagate, although it might be instant. To determine whether your domain is connected or not, copy and paste it into your browser. You should be redirected to your Shopify store.
